- The “Stone City” at Vila Velha State Park is well worth a visit. About an hour and a half from Curitiba, you can reach the Park by bus or car. - Ilha do Mel, or Honey Island, is a 2 hour bus ride and then a 30 minute boat trip across the Paranagua Bay Channel. Cars aren’t allowed on the island, which has half a dozen or so beautiful beaches and if you are a gourmet when it comes to good sea food meals, you will be in your element here.
- East of Curitiba on the coast is the Guaraqueçaba Environmental Protection Area, which is the largest unspoilt tract of Atlantic forest in Brazil. This area has been designated by the UN as one of the top conservation priorities in the world, called a “World Biosphere Reserve”. Over half of the tree species in this reserve are unique to this area, as are almost three quarters of its other plant life. There are 15 species of endangered birds and several endangered mammals including jaguar, tapir and tamarin species. You’ll be sure to enjoy this Curitiba sightseeing trip with its wonderful scenery including mangroves and sand dunes as well as the spectacular rainforest.
