Curitiba night life – where to go and what to do
Curitiba night life is more sedate than that of some of the larger Brazilian cities, but you will still find plenty of Curitiba nightlife travel attractions to entertain you during your stay in this charming city.
A good place to start for night life Curitiba is the Rua 24 Horas, or “24 Hour Road”, which is a covered arcade with shops and eating houses in the Centro Civico district of town. While it is quite small – perhaps 30-odd of the places are genuinely open 24 hours a day – it is a good place to know you can get groceries, food, magazines or a haircut at any time of the night or day!
There is a tourist information office here that is staffed night and day which is very handy, and there is also free Internet access here, but this is not available 24 hours, and local residents are allowed priority access rather than tourists, so you may well have to reserve a place in advance if you want to go and surf the web, although you could opt instead for a pay as you go cyber café which is also available nearby.
The Batel area is one of the hubs of Curitiba night life where bars and clubs are concerned. Some of the popular bars include Bar do Alemao, Bar Folha Seca and “Crossroads”. Bar do Alemao is reminiscent of an old fashioned German tavern with good beer and German food and sausages! It’s popular with the locals after work and late into the night and is usually busy and thrumming with social activity.
Bar Folha Seca is a warm, informal place frequented by lots of the locals, where you can meet people and generally mingle and have a good time. Beer and food are available late into the night!
Crossroads is a rock bar with very good musicians and a great atmosphere, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Very popular with the locals. It’s a good idea to reserve a table. You can make requests for songs but it always has to be rock!
John Bulls is another good rock bar with live music, arrive early to secure a good table upstairs to watch the live musicians. No sneakers allowed.
Some of the well-frequented nightclubs for late night music, dancing, drinking and socializing include Lique, Layout and Vox. These places are really the heart and soul of the Curitiba night life.
Finally, if you want to experience the Forro dancing, Calamengau on Roberto Barrozo Street is where you should be headed for your Curitiba night life scene. Saturday night is an especially good night to go.
